Even five listings sketch the real shape of the remote AI market. Pay spans an order of magnitude, from $14/hr task-based search rating to $170/hr architecture work. The cheap end is far easier to enter, because the labeling and rating roles ask for careful reading and rule-following, not a degree.
The expensive end is mostly contract rather than salaried. Two of the three engineering listings route through marketplaces (A.Team, Lemon.io) instead of direct employment. That means client-project variety, but also no benefits and invite-style screening. And "AI job" more often means working around models — labeling their training data, rating their outputs — than building them.
